Healing Arts Studies

The 2017 class is full. Enrollment will open in the fall for next year's course that will begin in March, 2018

Discovering Your Inner Healer Through Herbal Wisdom & Bodywork for Every-body

This 150 hour, year long class begins March, 11th, 2017 and runs every 3rd Saturday through March 17th, 2018. It incorporates herbal medicine, bodywork & energy medicine, personal growth activities, a deep level of self-care encouragement, and more. This class prepares you to challenge yourself to grow and learn while building the skills and understanding to be a healing influence for yourself, loved ones, and community. In addition to being an atmosphere of learning, it is meant to help you find your strengths and talents while supporting you where you feel you need support. This course focuses on self care and self development first. It then offers a one of a kind education covering a broad scope of herbal knowledge and cross cultural bodywork and energy medicine modalities, such as:
  • Backyard medicine-based herbalism (identifying and using what grows abundantly around us)
  • AcuBotanics Therapy™ (application of herbal tinctures and flower essences to acupuncture points)
  • Herbal energetics (including pulse testing)
  • Plant spirit healing concepts
  • Holistic anatomy & physiology
  • Making and using flower essences
  • Five element theory (Chinese medicine)
  • Reiki Levels I & II with Level III being an optional, bonus class at no extra cost
  • The healing properties of nature
  • Reflexology
  • Chakra work
  • Ecopsychology & spiritual ecology concepts
  • Body awareness activities
  • Ethics & healthy boundaries
  • Optional at-home projects to support self growth and mind-body-spirit connection
  • Countless resources for further learning
  • and so much more

While this class is focused on an energy medicine approach, we'll also introduce additional herbal medicine topics listed here and give additional resources for furthering your studies if you are interested in clinical herbalism.

By the end of this course, you'll be able to:
  • Be familiar with identification and uses of approximately 60 plants that grow in the west central Wisconsin region
  • Be familiar with uses for approximately 20 additional herbs from other areas
  • Make herbal tinctures, teas, syrups, honeys, vinegars, flower essences, salves, and bone broths
  • Wildcraft (identify, harvest, and process) fresh, wild herbs
  • Know the top, most suggested herbs to grow (based on ease of growth, climate, and lack of commercial availability)
  • Gain a new understanding of plant intelligence
  • Understand the basics of herbal energetics, Chinese medicine concepts, and holistic diagnostic processes
  • Make herbal treats such as body care products and cordials
  • Have a good understanding of food as medicine and wild nutrition
  • Experience a wide variety of self care concepts and projects
  • Know how to help yourself, your friends, and your family members with simple, hands on techniques from bodywork modalities such as reflexology and reiki
  • Have access to many plants from my herb gardens to transplant into your own garden
  • Gain deeper abilities related to observation and awareness
  • Experience personal growth and development
  • Have a basic to intermediate understanding of the human energy system with skills you can use from day one
  • And more

Class sessions are part discussion based and part direct, hands on practice. Throughout the learning process, we will discover how to more fully access and accept who we are as individuals and how to be more present and knowledgeable for others in doing healing work. My teaching style follows my model of care. It is relaxed, supportive, and informal. In addition to being curious about herbs and energy medicine, here are some of the reasons why a person might be drawn to this class.
  • A desire for self-growth and self-healing work with a focus on deep, soul nourishing support
  • Wanting to feel more aware and balanced in your day to day life
  • Feeling called to explore a more intimate connection with the wisdom of nature
  • Wanting to know more about the plants that grow all around us
  • A longing for something deeper, perhaps something that feels intangible or indescribable
  • A desire to help friends, family, loved ones, and your community with the modalities and information you'll learn
  • Incorporating new ways of seeing and working with the body if you already have a bodywork practice

Certificates of attendance will be offered in the following modalities with documented contact hours. If you are already a bodyworker or other health professional, you may be able to submit these hours towards continuing education requirements for some organizations. Please note this course is primarily for self development. It is not a vocational training program.

No previous experience in any area is needed. The only prerequisites are an open heart, an open mind, willingness to learn, and a desire to be a positive influence in your community.

I want to emphasize that you do NOT have to be a professional bodyworker to take this class. In fact, part of the whole purpose of this class is to give everybody easy, yet powerful tools that are useful and do not require licensing to use.

This is a zero stress, at-your-own-pace, no tests kind of class meant to support you in what you want to get out of it. Class information is passed through both the oral tradition and direct hands-on practice. Most students choose to take notes and pictures but it is not required.

Classes may be held at a variety of locations depending on where plants we are studying are abundant. Most classes will be near Sand Creek. Some will be in or near Menomonie. We will be doing field work, playing in the kitchen with herbal treats and medicines, and getting plenty of hands-on practice on massage tables as a group. A private Facebook group will help us all stay connected and share resources.

Class size is limited. The total cost is $990, divided into a deposit and 5 payments throughout the year. Your spot in the class will be reserved as soon as your deposit is received. Enroll for 2017's course and get in on this special pricing!
