Irlen® Syndrome Screening
*** I am not able to accept clients for Irlen screenings at this time. Please reach out to Judy at the Irlen Clinic of the Twin Cities (listed below). ***
As someone with a lifetime of lived experience with significant visual processing challenges, I am happy to be a Certified Irlen® Syndrome Screener, which allows me to help others navigate sensory processing concerns. I can work with you during the first steps of your journey to see if you screen positive for Irlen® Syndrome and test you for appropriately colored plastic overlays for your reading material to help ease visual stress. Please reach out to me directly via email about scheduling.
If you screen positive and would like to proceed with the next step of getting glasses with customized lenses tinted specifically for the way your brain processes visual information, the nearest Irlen® Diagnostician who is able to do that is in Minneapolis.

Here is a terrific video demonstrating how immediate and powerful the changes can be with overlays. Please watch! Here is one more video.
IRLEN SYNDROME IS A PERCEPTUAL PROCESSING DISORDER. It is not an optical problem. It is a problem with the brain’s ability to process visual information. This problem tends to run in families and is not currently identified by standardized educational, psychological, optometric, or medical tests. This problem can manifest itself differently for each individual. Irlen Syndrome is not remediable and is often a lifetime barrier to learning and performance.
SIGNS OF IRLEN SYNDROME
WHO IS AFFECTED?
Irlen Syndrome is present in a variety of populations, including individuals identified with reading and learning difficulties, low motivation, attention deficit disorder (ADHD), discipline problems, headaches and migraines, autism, and traumatic brain injury. While more common in populations with specific difficulties, such as reading problems and ADHD, even gifted and highly successful individuals can be impacted by this issue – often working harder and suffering more than necessary to succeed.
